FAQ's

1. What is shared supportive housing?
Shared supportive housing is a housing option where individuals live together in a shared home or apartment while receiving services designed to support their stability and well-being. It offers a community-centered environment for people who may be overcoming homelessness, mental health challenges, or other barriers to independent living.

2. Who qualifies for shared supportive housing?
Eligibility depends on the program and its guidelines, but typically includes adults experiencing homelessness or housing instability, those with mental health or substance use challenges, or individuals facing other obstacles to maintaining stable housing.

3. What types of supportive services are provided?
Residents in shared supportive housing have access to a variety of services, which may include case management, counseling, life skills workshops, healthcare referrals, benefit assistance, community activities, and coordination with outside service providers — all aimed at promoting personal growth, independence, and stability.

4. How are roommates selected?
To foster a comfortable and compatible living situation, potential roommates are matched based on personal preferences, interests, and individual support needs. Program staff typically conduct assessments and interviews to help ensure a good fit for each resident.

5. Is shared supportive housing affordable?
Yes. Shared supportive housing is designed to be accessible, with rent often based on a percentage of a participant’s income or a set program fee. Some individuals may also qualify for housing subsidies or financial assistance to help cover costs.

6. What amenities are included?
Amenities vary by property but commonly include furnished private bedrooms, shared kitchens, bathrooms, living spaces, on-site or nearby laundry facilities, outdoor spaces, and access to supportive services either on the premises or within the community..

7. How long can someone stay in shared supportive housing?
Length of stay is determined by each individual’s circumstances, program guidelines, and resource availability. Some homes offer short-term transitional housing, while others support longer-term residency to help individuals reach stability and prepare for independent living.

8. How do I apply for shared supportive housing?
Applications can typically be submitted directly through the program provider or via a referral from a social worker, healthcare provider, or community organization. The process usually involves completing an intake assessment, providing eligibility documentation, and participating in an interview or screening.

9. Is shared supportive housing safe?
Yes — the safety and well-being of residents is a top priority. Properties follow safety procedures, provide regular maintenance, and have security protocols in place. Program staff are also available to offer oversight and support to ensure a secure living environment.

10. Do you offer housing for families?
At this time, our housing program is specifically for single adults. We do not currently provide accommodations for families or women with children. We recommend reaching out to local social service agencies, shelters, or housing organizations for family-specific resources.

11. Do you assist with rental or utility payments?
We do not offer rental or utility assistance. However, we are happy to provide referrals to other community agencies and resources that may be able to help.

12. Are program fees refundable?
All program fees are non-refundable. While we aim to meet every participant’s needs, if our program is not the right fit, we will assist with referrals to other appropriate services and resources
